The new season started well with a busy auction at Otterbourne Village Hall. Over 350 lots were brought in on the day and a few surprises ensured an interesting auctionThe most interesting lot was an original oil painting of a Gentleman by Hungarian artist – Antal Jansek, who was born in 1907 and died in 1985. A commission bid left by an early viewer, who could not stay for the auction won the artwork for £220.
Another item of interest was a nice Canterbury, well polished and in excellent condition. This fell to a room bidder for £110. A silver box from Babugarh, India and with engraved signatures from the Jacob Horse Regiment, hit it’s top estimate of £50. It is 50 years since the famous photo was taken of the Beatles crossing Abbey Road and a large framed poster went for £20 showing the Fab Four are still popular today.
Overall the auction went well with a good percentage of items sold. Nearly £300 was raised for the Alexandra Devine Children’s Hospice from donations by SAS Auctions.
